Municipality of Kostenets decides issues of local importance in the sphere of the municipal property, enterprises, finance; the development of the territory; the education and culture; the health care. Kostenets is located in South-West of Bulgaria, Sofia region. It is between two of the biggest cities in Bulgaria - Sofia (60 km away) and Plovdiv (80 km away). The municipality inhabitants are 12 562 people at the end of 2018. The farming land is 40% and the forest land is 55% from all the municipality area. In the territory there are three hot mineral water springs – in the resorts of Momin prohod, Vili Kostenets and Pchelinski bani famous from ancient times with their healing qualities. 408 firms are registered here. The main part of the local economy is based on manufacturing industry and commerce, followed by tourism, agriculture and forestry. The most popular tourist sites in Kostenets are the Kostenski Waterfalls, the Stenos Fortress at Trayanovi vrata passage, numerous eco-paths, etc.
