Over the last years there have been several mass migrations of refugees from Asia and Africa moving to Europe to flee from wars, misery or persecutions, two of the most considerable migrations were the one caused by the war in Syria and by the war in Libya. The phenomenon has to be considered as an humanitarian emergency given the high risk of violence, slavery and death that is faced by migrants, the phenomenon concerns the entire European Community that is called to make an intervention and take responsibility in managing it. Unfortunately, the various European states have been divided and uncooperative in solving the problem, furthermore misinformation and prejudices on the issue are widespread among the citizens and fuel the stigmatization "of the immigrant as a scapegoat for a whole series of social and economic problems. Over the years, Italy has set up so-called ""first reception"" projects to receive political asylum seekers from Libya and meet their primary needs (food, shelter, health care, etc.) and today is facing a new phase of the problem which is the socio-economic integration of migrants in its territory.
The objectives of this project are:
– To create a network of collaboration at European level between associations and public bodies operating in the reception system for asylum seekers and refugees to exchange good practices and experiences regarding reception and socio- economic integration of the latters.
– Organizing meetings, trainings and intercultural exchanges between migrants and European citizens so as to increase awareness and information about migration and human rights.
– Establish a European Migration Portal that provides on one hand a database of information regarding any type of useful services (legal, health, housing, etc.) for refugees who, once they have left their reception projects, want to move to an Italian or European city, on the other hand the Portal will produces analysis and studies at international level on the topic of migration in various languages, so as to be an information tool available to every citizen "and / or organization."
