Action, Measure in the framework Action, Measure in the framework of “Europe for Citizens” Programme: Strand 2. Democratic engagement and civic participation. Civil society project
Abstract:
The project aims to strengthen an active dialogue and discussion on the future development of the European Union, between young people born or grown up in the European countries involved in the project and two new candidate States. This project is intended to be our contribution to the debate launched with the European Commission's White Paper on the evolution of Europe in the years to come. In a world dominated by uncertainty, hit by a serious pandemic crisis (Covid-19), someone could let themselves be tempted by the path of isolation, but the consequences of division and fragmentation would be far-reaching. The various changes taking place in the world and the sense of real insecurity felt by many citizens, intensified by the management at European level of the pandemic crisis, have led to a growing disaffection with respect to traditional politics and institutions at all levels which often results in a form of indifference and distrust of the work of public authorities and also creates a hole that is filled too easily by populist and nationalistic rhetoric. For these reasons, the main topic of the project is the perception of these young people, coming from different social and cultural backgrounds, on the current impression of the European Union and its future development, as well as their effective participation in democratic life in society increasingly multicultural. The current crisis and the health emergency have involved citizens of the world equally. If on the one hand the response of European governments has been different in terms of social, economic and health measures, at this stage citizens and especially young people have continued to seek dialogue and human relationships while remaining connected and seeking virtual mutual support offered by the web. The project intends to start from the recent experience of common difficulty to create a structured solidarity network in which young people have an active part. This project intends to restart from Europe by promoting active citizenship. The main objectives of the project are to develop research on young people in relation to their perception of current Europe and its future developments. Analyzing anti-EU movements from their point of view and promoting an active and intercultural confrontation between young people who often have low effective participation and little knowledge of the democratic life of the EU. Push the ability of young people to become active promoters of awareness and knowledge regarding active participation and citizenship among their peers, focusing on the positive results of the EU and assuming further possible developments and benefits for young citizens. It also promotes the debate on the future of the European Union among young people from new candidate countries and member countries.
