Šalčininkai district municipality

Šalčininkai district municipality

Un progetto inserito | Vilniaus g. 49 17116 Šalčininkai
Descrizione:
Salcininkai district municipality is located in the southeast of Lithuania, on the border with the Republic of Belarus. The center of the district - Šalčininkai - is a town located 50 km from Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, accessible by convenient road, bus or train. About 32,000 people live in the municipality. The district is unique due to the ethnic composition of the population. There are representatives of several nationalities - Lithuanians, Russians, Byelorussians and a significant Polish community. We are proud of our rich cultural heritage - representative manors and a rich ethnographic heritage of past generations. Part of the municipality's territory is occupied by the only historical regional park in Lithuania, which preserves archaeological, mythological, natural objects and architectural heritage. However, as in many regional towns, there are problems we would like to address through volunteering and active engagement of local communities.

Projects proposal

24 LUGLIO 2019 - Erika Sudnicka
Abstract:

Short description of the project, including its aims

The project aims to find solutions to each of the Programm’e priority (such as Euroscepticism, debates on the future of Europe, solidarity, intercultural dialogue, fighting the stigmatisation of minority groups, active citizenship, EU values, cultural heritage) which are actual for other European towns through active volunteering of the local community members, both young and elderly, involving them to act and help the municipalities to contribute to the social and cultural development of the region. Through collaboration with other municipalities/civic society organisations we want to establish a tight network across Europe and promote volunteering in the smaller towns. The network between governmental and civic society organisations would become a valuable synergy in order to offer high quality volunteering opportunities in the region, involving local communities and raising their awareness of the common EU issues and strengthening the civic society.

Role of the partner organisation in the project

Partner organisations depending on the capacities would need to think and propose one of the issues/problems in their region which could be solved through active citizenship of local community members. Participate in international meetings and events and depending on the final workprogramme host one international event.
